Nicola Formichetti, Mugler

#PFW: Mugler Autumn/Winter 2013-14 Collection Report + Photos

Mugler‘s creative director Nicola Formichetti presented a risky collection at Paris Fashion Week to say the least. Formichetti has been the director of Mugler since it was re-branded from Thierry Mugler and took a dramatic turn in the sense of advertising campaigns but kept the same innovative edgy style. They featured “Zombie Boy” Rick Genest in their advertising campaign showing this gravitational change.

Back to MUGLER’s collection and the first models out of the gate wore hooded garments which were baggily tailored in powder blue and grey. Dark turquoise vinyl trousers and a blush jacket were next, followed by a powder blue top and pencil skirt with a patch of orange fur  across the chest. Onesie-like suits kept making an appearance throughout the collection in a variety of colours and styles. Cutout fur and silk gowns were also featured along with a hide and wool jacket and skirt combo with a tall collar. I’m usually a fan of MUGLER’s style but there was something missing for me, personally.

Gareth Pugh, Paris Fashion Week

#PFW: Gareth Pugh Autumn/Winter 2013-14 Collection Report + Photos

Gareth Pugh presented a Gothic haunted collection to crowds at Paris Fashion Week with models dressed in extravagant black and whites pieces with grey faces, grey lips and their hair wrapped around their faces resembling walking Frankensteins.

It was the show of big fabrics and over-sizing  Pugh presented monochrome pieces such as sweeping gowns with blossoming collars and floor length skirts and leather hide tunics with mermaid-tail skirts worn underneath. Some resembled Wiccan-like attire (perfect for creeping through dark spooky forests) and other were Gothic sleekness at it’s best – if that’s even a term which can be used to describe fashion. The ending pieces had added frills and fabric which resembled crows feathers, another creepy addition but I think it worked… not to mention the box shaped hats.

I’ll let you make your own judgments on Pugh’s collection but I was strangely feeling it. I don’t know what it was but I really liked how polar opposite was to the usual vintage romantique Hollywood we’ve seen this past month. Hmm…

Take a look at the whole collection below (CLICK for a larger preview and slideshow).

Iranian News Agency Doctor Photos of Michelle Obama’s Oscars Dress

Iranian news agency Fars photoshopped pictures of First Lady Michelle Obama’s Oscar’s gown during her presenting of the “Best Picture” gong live from the White House. The photo was edited in such a way that her Naeem Khan dress covered her chest and shoulders as to be in line with the country’s restrictions of the female body in the media.

Iran censorship of foreign celebrities is common according to The Guardian, with actors and actresses even being edited frame by frame to cover modesty and some scenes are deleted all together if they are deemed in violation of Islamic law. Islamic laws deem that women must wear a ha-jib that covers their hair, arms and legs and this enforcement is particularly strict in Muslim countries in the Middle East such as the UAE and surrounding nations. This rule varies when tourists are involved, however they are asked to dress respectively and cover knees and shoulders when going out in public.

H&M campaign featuring Gisele Bündchen was heavily edited for showing in the Middle East and was declared too raunchy for Dubai. The model had a t-shirts and vests superimposed under her playsuit to make them less revealing.

Model and Vogue cover girl Cara Delevingne has trademarked her own name, allowing her to use it as a brand title should she ever want to expand into a design or production career. She registered it with Intellectual Property Office in December last year according to The Sunday Times, meaning she has exclusive rights over the use of it in any future endeavours. This prevents others releasing products such as perfumes, shoes or handbags with this labelling unless she chooses to do so herself.

The model has also registered her own company name, Cara & Co. in which her father, Charles Delevingne is co-director. The 20-year-old also has voiced interests in an interview with Vogue in releasing a line of onesies or a range of “simple, well-cut tops and t-shirts”.
