Model and Vogue cover girl Cara Delevingne has trademarked her own name, allowing her to use it as a brand title should she ever want to expand into a design or production career. She registered it with Intellectual Property Office in December last year according to The Sunday Times, meaning she has exclusive rights over the use of it in any future endeavours. This prevents others releasing products such as perfumes, shoes or handbags with this labelling unless she chooses to do so herself.

The model has also registered her own company name, Cara & Co. in which her father, Charles Delevingne is co-director. The 20-year-old also has voiced interests in an interview with Vogue in releasing a line of onesies or a range of “simple, well-cut tops and t-shirts”.

Alexander McQueen Spring/Summer 2013 Campaign

Alexander McQueen have opened the door to their new Spring/Summer 2013 campaign by posting promotional pictures on Facebook along with updating their website. The collection seems to have been inspired by bees and hives, that much is evident from the pictures posted. (Click the images for description and larger view).

The campaign has been photographed by David Sims and feature model Raquel Zimmerman being doused in what looks like honey (another hint towards the imagery).

Cheif designer Sarah Burton had this to say about the Spring/Summer 2013 campaign on AlexanderMcQueen.com: ““The collection is a study of femininity. We looked at erotica. Vargas girls, cages, corsets and crinolines and the idealisation of the female form. Nothing is set in a particular period. It’s about sensuality and skin but not nudity. We also wanted to express lightness, for the clothes almost to hover over the women who wear them.”

Reported earlier this week, Alexander McQueen have pulled out from PFW and the showing of SS13 collection due to the clash with Burton’s maternity leave. Instead, it will be presented to an intimate audience in March.

US Vogue causes a storm with Sandy shoot

The American publication of Vogue has been on the receiving end of an uproar after it published a photo shoot in it’s magazine which was inspired by Hurricane Sandy, the super storm which battered the USA’s east coast in November. The photos were taken by Annie Leibovitz, the famed photographer who once photographed John Lennon and Yoko Ono.

The shoot depicts supermodels such as Chanel Imen and Karlie Kloss posing in latest collections alongside staff of the emergency services who helped keep the inhabitants of places like New Jersey and New York safe during the disaster. Many view the use of the devastated areas of New York City as backdrops distasteful and insensitive.

However, in an attempt to exemplify that they do care about the victims of Hurricane Sandy, Vogue and the Council of Fashion Designers of America raised £1 million for aid efforts. Was this contemporary photo shoot the right thing for Vogue to do in order to combine fashion with current affairs or do you believe it is distasteful and tacky? Have your say in the comments.
