Alexander McQueen have opened the door to their new Spring/Summer 2013 campaign by posting promotional pictures on Facebook along with updating their website. The collection seems to have been inspired by bees and hives, that much is evident from the pictures posted. (Click the images for description and larger view).

The beekeeper-esque opaque headpiece along with the hexagonal print on the shining fabric clearly symbolise a theme and is typical McQueen twist.

An alternative on the “beekeeper” look, featuring a golden metallic studding resembling a honeycomb print. Also, a honeycomb netting skirt. Featuring model Raquel Zimmerman.

An alternative the headpiece, this time a beige colour complete with a fitted top decorated with lacquered lace. The skirting is floor length, tan and netted with an underskirt. The campaign has been photographed by David Sims and feature model Raquel Zimmerman being doused in what looks like honey (another hint towards the imagery).
Cheif designer Sarah Burton had this to say about the Spring/Summer 2013 campaign on AlexanderMcQueen.com: ““The collection is a study of femininity. We looked at erotica. Vargas girls, cages, corsets and crinolines and the idealisation of the female form. Nothing is set in a particular period. It’s about sensuality and skin but not nudity. We also wanted to express lightness, for the clothes almost to hover over the women who wear them.”
Reported earlier this week, Alexander McQueen have pulled out from PFW and the showing of SS13 collection due to the clash with Burton’s maternity leave. Instead, it will be presented to an intimate audience in March.
